Office looking for future award winners

By U.S. ArmySeptember 16, 2011

The Field Artillery Proponent Office invites everyone to tell about the extraordinary actions, battle-focused innovations, unique accomplishments and unit successes of the field artillery branch.

Every year the office recognizes the most outstanding battery in field artillery with the Henry A. Knox Award for the active component and the Alexander Hamilton Award for the National Guard. The Edmund L. Gruber Award recognizes excellence and outstanding contributions and achievements by an individual.

This is an opportunity to highlight the Soldiers and units that lead the way within the branch. Last year, the Henry A. Knox Award was presented to B Battery, 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery from Fort Campbell, Ky. A Battery, 1st Battalion, 623rd FA from Lexington, Ky., was the winner of the Alexander Hamilton Award. The Edmund L. Gruber Award went to Sgt. 1st Class José Weeks, B Battery, 2nd Battalion, 12th FA from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.

The office will accept nomination packets via e-mail. Nominations will consist of a narrative of the unit or individual and will include a signature endorsement of the battalion commander. Individual and unit nominations must include action photos of the unit or individual.

There is no minimum length or specific information requirement, but the nomination should highlight achievements, awards, safety and missions that describe the unit or individual success.

The deadline is Nov. 1.

For more information, call Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey Martin at 580-442-3031.
