TAJI, Iraq -Senior leadership from the 1st "Ironhorse" Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division met with Iraqi Army Lt. Gen Abud Qanbar, commanding general of the Baghdad Operations Command to discuss security within the 2nd "Stallion" Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, area of operations here Oct. 25.

Brig. Gen. John F. Campbell, deputy commanding general for maneuver, Multi-National Division - Baghdad, Col. Paul E. Funk II, the Ironhorse Brigade commander, and Lt. Col. Scott Efflandt, the 2nd Bn., 8th Cav. Regt. commander, briefed Gen. Qanbar on the significant decrease of enemy activity as well as the advancement of the Iraqi Army elements.

They met with local sheiks who accredited security improvements to the combined effort of the local residents, Iraqi Security Forces, Iraqi security volunteers, local tribal leaders, Iraqi government leaders, Iraqi Army, Iraqi Police and Coalition Forces.Af'A,A Gen. Qanbar also visited 3rd Brigade, 9th Iraqi Army Division (Mechanized) as well as the Taji market.

"This was a very significant meeting, it gave Gen. Qanbar the opportunity to talk to the sheiks about the way ahead for future security efforts in the area to include improvements in Iraqi Police and Iraqi Army operations," said Maj. Randall Baucom, a 1st BCT spokesman.Af'A,A "All parties are working together to help the Iraqi people defeat terrorism and return to a life of normalcy.Af'A,A Their efforts and recent security improvements thanks to the reconciliation process are helping to rebuild the country by allowing them to move from mainly a security focus to a focus on reestablishing critical infrastructure and essential services."
