FORT STEWART, Ga. - Staff members at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield's outdoor swimming pools are getting set for Families who are ready to plunge into the summer season.

The pools open at 11:30 a.m., May 27 - the first day of the long Memorial Day weekend - for the new season.

Opening day is a good day to pick up a bargain: season passes are half price at all pools.

There are two outdoor pools at Stewart. Bryan Village Pool is located off Austin Road next to the Child Care Center in building 7097. Corkan Pool is in the Corkan Family Recreation Area near "The Springs" Splashpark and Cypress Creek Adventure (Mini) Golf.

Hunter's outdoor pool includes an 11-feature splashpark and is located behind Hunter Club, building 6015.

"We've drained, scrubbed and refilled the pools," Aquatics Manager Andy Arrington said last week. "We're getting all the poolside furniture ready and we're preparing the bath houses," he said.

The final stage of preparation work for opening the pools is to make certain the chemicals are in balance.

Arrington said 28 lifeguards will be hired at Stewart and 13 at Hunter to protect swimmers throughout the season, which ends Sept. 5.

Pool hours will be from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. seven days a week. The cost is $3 daily, $34 for an individual season pass and $60 for a Family season pass.
