FORT SILL, Okla. -- In a move to provide the warfighter with a single face for logistics support, the 407th Army Field Support Brigade turned over operational control of its logistics support team to the Fort Sill Directorate of Logistics.

The transfer of the LST from Army Support Battalion-Hood, Fort Hood, Texas, to the DOL added a fifth division to the DOL organization, said Col. Danny Tilzey, 407th Brigade commander. The Fort Sill DOL is the first directorate to receive an LST.

Leaders from the Army Materiel Command, Army Sustainment Command and Fort Sill participated in the transfer of control ceremony April 27 at the Resiliency Training Center here.

The DOL will become one-stop shopping for Soldiers, Tilzey said.

He compared the DOL to a department store with different floors. Anyone who needs anything to do with logistics from bullets to self-propelled howitzers, and everything in between, will come to through the doors of the DOL.

"As logisticians, our single most-important function is to provide world-class support to our Soldiers," Tilzey said. "Every system, procedure and decision is directed toward responding to and supporting their needs."

The transformation is a good in many ways, said Lt. Col. Douglas Bell, AFSBn-Hood commander.

"We're able to streamline functions, eliminate waste and redundancies and be responsible for Army resources," Bell said. "Everything that is logistics related goes through the DOL."

In October, DOLs left Installation Management Command moving under the operational control of the Army Materiel Command. The Fort Sill Logistics Support Team was under AFSBn-Hood, but now as part of the DOL under the operational control of AFSBn-Carson, headquartered at Fort Carson, Colo., and led by Lt. Col. Andrew Centineo, battalion commander.

"We have the mission support element at Fort Carson, which actually provides direct support to Fort Sill, so the alignment makes perfect sense," Centineo said.

Two Soldiers, 22 civilians and 54 contractors are attached to the Sill LST, now known as the Logistics Assistance Division.

The LAD joins the DOL's Plans and Operations, Supply and Services, Transportation, and Maintenance divisions, said Karen Jordan, DOL acting director.

Adding the LAD to the DOL will work, and it will improve processes and save time, money and people, said Chris Grigsby, outgoing DOL director, who will become Dugway Proving Ground Garrison manager.

AFSBn-Carson's mission control of the LAD will take effect July 1. On Oct. 1, 2012, the battalion will take administrative control, or full command and control of the unit, Centineo said.
