ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The 2010 Illowa Bi-State Combined Federal Campaign celebrated its successful completion with an awards luncheon Jan. 20 at the Arsenal Club. Maj. Gen. Yves J. Fontaine, commanding general of U.S. Army Sustainment Command, served as the honorary chairperson for 2010 and keynote speaker.
The 2010 CFC campaign raised $827,470, a $6,000 increase from the 2009 fundraiser. On its own, ASC donated $86,620, an increase of almost $12,000 from the previous year.
"From the bottom of my heart, I thank you; the Army thanks you and the CFC campaign thanks you," said Fontaine. "$827,000 will help a lot of people in need."
Fontaine praised CFC volunteers for their time invested in the campaign.
"It takes leadership, commitment, focus and time," said Fontaine. "To all leaders here, time is of critical essence. You took time out of your busy schedule to make this a reality. You took time out of your busy schedule to focus attention to your workforce and let them know CFC was a good thing to do. Without this, this wouldn't be a reality."
Fontaine also acknowledged the human aspect of CFC.
"At the end of the day, you are the human dimension," he said. "The most important thing in a leader is to take care of human beings in their organization and you have done that. People in this community, people on this island and people in the Midwest states are really true people - are true human beings taking care of people."
The CFC is the only authorized solicitation of federal and postal employees in the workplace on behalf of charitable organizations. The Illowa Bi-State CFC covers all federal, postal and military employees in the 37-county area of western Illinois and eastern Iowa.
This year's award ceremony recognized contributions from twenty federal employee organizations from the Rock Island Arsenal and surrounding Quad-City area communities.
Patrick Behr, Illowa CFC chairperson, began the festivities with a welcome, followed by an invocation. The top two essay contest winners read their entries. Later, Fontaine helped present an oversize check to Rick Widdel, principal combined fund organization representative.
Several ASC employees were recognized for their efforts in this year's campaign. Committee members included Peggy Bennett, Neal Ketron and Sgt. Maj. Duane Strong. Tim Gitchel was ASC's loaned executive for the campaign. Also recognized with key person certificates were Rene Robinson, Carrie Gulley and 1st Sgt. Mary Avants.
"This is all about you guys and my message today is very brief," said Fontaine. "It is to say thank you."
