FORT BENNING, Ga. - More than 50 robotics companies from across the country will display their technologies during the 2010 U.S. Army Robotics Rodeo at Fort Benning's McKenna MOUT Site Oct. 12-15. The rodeo will be co-hosted by the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center - or TARDEC - based in Warren, Mich.
Technology innovators will participate in both task-based events and open robotics demonstrations with stated goals of motivating the industry, educating developers and observing the current state of ground robotics technology and artificial intelligence.
"For 2010, our focus is tightened to looking at improvements in small robotic platforms and the 'teaming' of manned and unmanned systems," said Dr. Jim Overholt, TARDEC senior research scientist in robotics. "This will be a valuable, attention-grabbing, motivating event that will benefit our forces."
This is the second year for the Robotics Rodeo. The Army's inaugural Robotics Rodeo took place in Aug. 2009 at Fort Hood, TX, co-hosted by III Corps and TARDEC. TARDEC is the focal point for all Department of Defense ground robotics systems.
There will be a media opportunity during this event on Oct. 14. In addition to the robotic demonstrations, representatives from the military and commercial industries will be available for comment. Media who wish to attend should call the Public Affairs Office to arrange for an escort no later than 5 p.m. Oct 12.
