FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. -- Tara Crooks and Star Henderson, popular hosts of Army Wife Talk Radio, are bringing their Spouse's Field Exercise to the Family Resource Center Oct. 15 from 5 until 9 p.m. and Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The Spouse's FEX got its start at Fort Stewart, Ga., in 2007. Since that time, the program is soaring to new heights with multiple appearances between forts Stewart, Bliss, Riley, Bragg, Carson, Hood, Sill and Campbell.
This will be the Army Wife Network's second visit to Fort Campbell. The first was in December of 2008.
The Spouse's FEX was initially created to give military spouses a chance to be appreciated for "holding down the fort at home" while their husbands were deployed.
Today, the Spouse's FEX has succeeded in not only showing "gratitude and appreciation" for the one left behind, but has metamorphisized into an environment that offers the chance to forge new friendships based on the unique commonalities of Army Family life.
According to the Army Wife Network website, during the Spouse's FEX there is lots of fun in the form of care package idea sharing, a deployment tip workshop, giveaway bags and door prize and a free meal. It's all topped off with some great social networking, camaraderie and love.
In reinforcing the value of the Spouse's Field Exercise, Morale Welfare and Recreation Marketing Director, Melissa Schaffner, said, "Normally it's MWR's job during the deployment year to help take care of our families, but when people from the outside, like the Army Wife Network, come to our post for an event, it reinforces that there are people out there that really do care."
Registration for the Fort Campbell Spouse's Field Exercise begins Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. Interested spouses must register online at www.armywifenetwork.com.
According to Tina Tucker from the FRC, free child-care will be provided to all spouses who have successfully registered with the Army Wife Network. Registration with FRC occurs at the same time as the event registration. Tucker said, "The spouse must be registered with AWN prior to registering with FRC, however."
Tucker also added, "In order for spouse's to take advantage of the free child care, the child must be registered with Child Youth School Age Service or CYSS. The child must be dropped off at FRC no earlier than 30 minutes before the event and picked up no later than 30 minutes after the event. The spouse will also need to provide us with the child's full name, age, sponsor's full name, rank, which event they will be attending that night, in this case it would be the Spouse's Field Exercise. We will also need the spouse's full name and a viable contact number, as well."
