FORT RUCKER, Ala. -- Fort Rucker and Wiregrass community members gathered to celebrate their teamwork during an Association of the United States Army breakfast at First United Methodist Church in Ozark Aug. 26.
Brig. Gen. Anthony G. Crutchfield, U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Rucker commanding general, said he looked forward to establishing strong relationships with Wiregrass leaders and civilians.
"I can't tell you how happy I am to be at Fort Rucker and lead our Branch," he told attendees. "I will get the job done."
Crutchfield noted his daughter was born here during a previous assignment at Fort Rucker, and reminisced about the Wiregrass' support for the military and AUSA.
"I know this community and I know you all care about Soldiers," he said.
AUSA is a non-profit organization that aids the Army population through community involvement and scholarships. They also financially support installation events, including the annual Freedom Fest, said Bob Slagle, AUSA executive secretary.
The general called the group "a fine organization about Soldiers and Families."
Alabama has established a very diverse economy over the past few decades, welcoming many international companies and industries to its state, said Neal Wade, Alabama Development Office director.
He noted the installation brings its own diversity to the surrounding communities. Civilians and Soldiers working together make the area stronger economically and socially.
"At Fort Rucker you have somewhat of an international flavor as well," he said. "This is a great place to live, work, worship and raise children. Alabama is on the cusp of greatness."
Ozark Mayor Billy Blackwell thanked Crutchfield and his wife, Kimberly, for their dedication to the community and Soldiers.
"They have a real special place in their hearts for Fort Rucker. They are a charming couple. They're personable, likable and get the job done," Blackwell said.
