Marines from the 2nd Beach and Operations Company at Hunter attend the cake utting on the Hunter Club patio to celebrate the Army Birthday.
First Sergeant Derrick Mays, inspector instructor, 2nd Beach and Operations Co. said the Marines enjoys the relationship that his unit has with Soldiers and their Army partners at Hunter.
"We are treated as true team players by (Hunter garrison commander) Lt. Col. (Jose) Aguilar; he always makes himself available to us, " he said. " It's our obligation to celebrate and give back to the Army on its 235 birthday."
Prior to the cake cutting at the 3rd ID Museum, Col. Kevin Milton, U.S. Army Garrison commander for Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield noted the occasion was significant, not only because the Army has served this nation for 235 years or that it currently defends Americans and our national interests by fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan but also because American Soldiers fight to defend the Constitution rather than prop up a dictator, king or oppressive regime.
"For 235 years, our Army has drawn the best and the brightest of this nation," Col. Milton said. "This Army doesn't exist to defend a monarch or a president; it exists to defend the Constitution, which embodies a set of ideals that makes this country what it is today."
