CAMP DARBY, Italy- At a small installation such as Camp Darby where many offices are staffed by only one person, volunteers play an important role in augmenting and providing services to ensure high quality of life for Soldiers, families and civilians. At the annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony May 7, the Camp Darby community thanked the numerous volunteers who have made life better on the installation.

Volunteer of the Year, Kina Williamson, was instrumental in the Army Community Services Army Family Action Plan Conference and helped before, during, and after the conference, according to her supervisor Jenny Sposato.

"She routinely volunteers every week at ACS and is on call when the need arises; she is looked to as a subject matter expert in many ACS programs because she has volunteered for each and every one of them," said Sposato. "Indeed, her expertise is so great that she often assists with training new ACS employees."

"Since I volunteer I feel more involved in the Community life and projects and I get to know everyone on Post; this is the perfect place for me to be when my husband John is working long hours," said Williamson. "Additionally, I learned that volunteer job counts towards your rAfAsumAfA and my volunteer experience at ACS really enriched my curriculum."

The Air Force Volunteer of the Year, Tech. Sgt. Rudy Segobia, 731 Munitions Squadron, was nominated by 1st Lt. Christopher Razor for his role in efforts that raised over $25,000 to support Camp Darby programs along with his continuous support to a variety of squadron and community events throughout the year.

Staff Sgt. Stacie Fowler, a HHD supply sergeant, was named the Army Volunteer of the Year. She was nominated by U.S. Army Garrison Livorno Command. Sgt. Maj. Felix Rodriguez for her dedication in helping raise funds for the Army Birthday Celebration, Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program and work with the Girl Scouts.

"Fowler is a single parent, which already requires a lot of time, but she always volunteers whenever there is a need," added Fowlers supervisor Capt. Annie Robinson.

The Youth Volunteer of the Year, Natsuki Wittmer, was nominated by Jennifer Kandell, Youth Services, for her involvement as a youth leader and presenter during the Army Family Action Program in addition to volunteering with DoDDs and Club beyond.

This year, Camp Darby celebrated its first ever Community Choice Award. Sharron Carter, Global Credit Union, won with 66 percent of the votes, according to Scheyda Stasik, ACS Army Volunteer Corps Coordinator.

"Overall, Camp Darby volunteers saved the garrison $198,304.35 in funds," said Stasik. "People interested in volunteering or units that have volunteer opportunities should also contact their local ACS."
