FORT GORDON, Ga. -- Marksmanship, physical fitness, day and night land navigation' Check. Quick egress from the High-Mobility Multipurpose Vehicle Egress Assistance Trainer after roll over' Roger. Up early' Tasked past darkness' Oh, yeah. Tear-gassed, inspected, tested, grilled, drilled' Check, again.
These and more scenarios faced nine Soldiers during a five-day quest designed to test their combat skills and knowledge as they vied for top honors in the 7th Signal Command (Theater) Non-Commissioned Officer and Soldier of the Year competition held here recently.
And the winners are...
Staff Sgt. Lynna Revard, 93rd Signal Brigade, Fort Eustis, Va., earned the honor of 7th SC (T) NCO of the Year and Spc. Brittany Williams, CONUS-Theater Network Operations and Security Center, Fort Huachuca, Az., took top honor as the SOY.
Staff Sgt. Angela Field, CONUS-TNOSC, and Spc. Paul Richardson, South-TNOSC, Fort Gordon, Ga., earned the NCO and SOY runners up honors respectively.
BG Jennifer L. Napper, 7th SC (T) commanding general, and CSM Kenneth Wiilliams, 7th SC (T) command sergeant major, recognized the winners and competitors during the command's Dining Out held recently at the Gordon Club.
"The goal was to conduct realistic events to test the Soldiers' combat skills," said MSG Eric Eldridge, 7th SC (T), non-commissioned officer in charge of the competition portions of the process. "The Soldiers that participated were all motivated, well prepared by their units and very knowledgeable about combat skills, and I believe they all had fun, too."
The other competitors, Staff Sgt. Tania DeJesus and Spc. Aimmee Bermudes, 106th SB, Fort Sam Houston, Tx.; Staff Sgt. Garrett Grubb, S-TNOSC; and Staff Sgt. Samuel Lagrou and Pfc. Gregory Ruffin, 7th SC (T), Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Fort Gordon, Ga., received command coins from BG Napper during the recognition ceremony.
"These warriors excelled at a broad range of skills and demonstrated their vast knowledge during a grueling week of individual competition and team building," said Napper. "They represent the extremely capable and highly motivated Soldiers who will lead our force and keep us Army Strong into future as we meet the nation's challenges around the globe."
Soldiers and NCOs throughout the Army compete each year at various unit and command levels until a panel selects two Soldiers as the Army's NCO of the year and SOY. The 7th SC (T) winners will compete next for NCO of the year and SOY top honors in the 9th Signal Command (A)/NETCOM SOY competition.
