REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala.--Runners and walkers gathered Wed., May 5, at 7 a.m. outside the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command Building 5220 in preparation to start an exercise program that is command sponsored and endorsed.

The commandAca,!a,,cs Fitness Life Improvement Program (FLIP) kicked off this week with great participation. Nearly 30 runners followed Chief of Staff Col. Kendal Cunningham on a two-mile run and approximately 45 walkers joined Sgt. Maj. John Mattie on a one-mile walk.

The weather was beautiful, with blue skies and early enough in the day to prevent the heat from being overwhelming. A brief period of stretching with instruction got everyone prepared, and water breaks at the half-way point and at the gathering point kept participants hydrated.

The main tent also supplied music and the occasional dancing, mostly provided by the entertaining leader Mattie, to keep the crowd enthused. Pamphlets on additional ways to stay healthy were also available at the main tent.

Cunningham was pleased with how the kick-off event went.

Aca,!A"I was asked to do this again soon,Aca,!A? he said. Aca,!A"[Employees should] plan for a second FLIP walk, run, and bike roughly four to five weeks from today.Aca,!A?

FLIP encourages everyone to get moving and get healthier. No registration is required. Just start tracking your exercise and other activities Aca,!" such as participation in Lunch and Learns and body assessments Aca,!" on the FLIP Points Tracker found on the website.
