FORT STEWART, Ga. - Helping keep Soldiers and Family Members informed about quality activities and events in the Georgia, Florida, and the Carolina areas was the objective of this year's Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield's Regional Information Sharing Forum/Community and Travel Showcase held March 10 at Club Stewart and March 12 at the Hunter Club.
While county, city, and installation leaders met to share information about ongoing activities, community vendors from throughout the southeast setup information booths to share with attendees.
More than 100 vendors attended this year's events, with about 70 at Stewart, and 30 at Hunter providing information, gifts, and food samples to a combined total of approximately 1,000 guests.
The information packets ranged from reservation discounts to menu selections from various food service restaurants and catering services - offering free samples and take home gifts.
About 50 door prizes were also presented at the showcases.
The vendors also tried to wow audience members, competing for best in show. The 2010 winners of the Stewart Community Cup was the Liberty County Health Department Susie Q's. The winner's of the Hunter Community Cup was Operation Homefront. Both groups are strong supporters of Soldiers and Family Members.
The Susie Q's provided a colorful display using artfully decorated bra's to help increase awareness of breast cancer, and inform community members of upcoming events. One of their colorfully name events, the "Jug Jiggle" is where participants decorate various water, milk and other jugs and race them down the Ashley Creek in Midway for a chance to win $500, with proceeds to benefit women in Liberty County to help pay for a digital mammography machine at Liberty Regional Medical Center.
