REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala.--Water main repairs are complete in the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command parking lot, but final restoration of the parking lot remains to be completed.
"We are going to repave a considerable amount of the parking lot to like-new condition," said Col. Walter Seifried, chief of staff engineer, USASMDC/ARSTRAT. "We are just waiting to see the final restoration plans."
The damage occurred Jan. 12 when a water main was damaged during work in the parking lot, causing an estimated 1 million gallons of water to fill the parking area.
Once the water main was turned off and the parking lot cleared of vehicles, contractors began digging out the damaged area. Repairs to the pipe were completed within a few days.
"I've never seen as quick and comprehensive responses as this command has seen in working on this situation," Seifried said.
