BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan - Being prepared for the unexpected was the topic of discussion for the first prayer breakfast of the year for Task Force Falcon, Jan. 7 at the Marne CafAfA dining facility at Bagram Airfield.

"Being out here in Afghanistan, we will be confronted with the unexpected: Unexpected rockets, unexpected changes in relationships, unexpected Red Cross messages, unexpected MEDEVAC, and unexpected deaths," said Chaplain (Maj.) Grace Hollis-Taylor, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, TF Falcon. "We will be impacted with the unexpected, so as I thought about it, I asked myself, 'how do we deal with the unexpected''"

Hollis-Taylor used a passage from Joshua 1 and discussed the importance of being prepared by using the military as an example.

"Being in the Army, we take classes, go through training, review (field manuals), go to briefs and read (operation orders) - we prepare ourselves for the unexpected, and it gives us a sense of confidence," said Hollis-Taylor. "Army training is great, but it does not prepare us for all the unexpected that comes in life. Unless we pause, take a knee and do some God-training, we will not be prepared for the unexpected."

A group of nine Soldiers attended the prayer breakfast, which lasted 30 minutes.

In the field you have to feed them and move them out, but I did want to be intentional," said Hollis-Taylor. "Though we were few in number, God does say where two or three are gathered, He is in their midst."

After more than two months in country, some Soldiers of TF Falcon were ready for spiritual encouragement.

"This is a big sacrifice for me because I'm not a morning person, but I'm glad I came," said Staff Sgt. Tiquita Nkiruka, HHC, TF Falcon who woke up early to attend the 6:30 a.m. prayer breakfast. "I have not been to any kind of spiritual training since I've been here, and I was moved to begin my spiritual fitness so this is my first step. It's a wonderful way to begin your day, and I hope there are more of them."
