Colonel Aundre F. Piggee was promoted Friday morning, December 4 (for RRAD Thursday afternoon) to brigadier general during a ceremony that spanned more than 10,500 miles. The ceremony was conducted at the U.S. 8th Army Headquarters in Seoul, Korea. General Peter W. Chiarelli, Vice Chief of Staff, United States Army presided over the ceremony.

Relatives from throughout the country were able to view the ceremony via video teleconference.

Brig. Gen. Aundre F. Piggee, a native of Stamps, Ark., has most recently served as assistant chief of staff for logistics and supply for all U.S. ground forces in South Korea.

Piggee's mom, Maxine, two brothers and sister-in-law-Carlos, Edgar and Gwen---along with other friends and relatives joined in the prestigious ceremony from Red River Army Depot.

"First let me thank God for this tremendous blessing," said Piggee during his address to the audience. "It's just impossible to describe the deep sense of humility I feel, and it's as overwhelming as it is humbling."

Piggee shared his family upbringing during his acceptance speech.

"I grew up in a very special family. My mom should be inducted in the sainthood Hall of Fame. She has been and still is the bedrock of our family. My success is founded in what I learned from my dad. He taught me how to be a man and a leader and most of all, he taught me how to always put others first, said Piggee. (Piggee's father, Rolland, died in 1998 and had served in the Army during World War II.)

After his speech, Piggee was able to converse with family members and friends from several locations. His daughter, Alexis who lives in Atlanta, Ga., recited a poem for her father and expressed her love and admiration for his accomplishments.

Mom Maxine said, "It is one of the most proud moments in my life."

Piggee was commissioned into the United States Army in 1981 from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff where he graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. He has a Master of Science Degree in Material Acquisition Management from Florida Institute of Technology and a Masters Degree in Military Strategy from the Army War College. His military education also includes completion of the Command and General Staff College.
