The National Park Service and Friends of the National World War II Memorial, Inc. sponsored a commemoration event at the World War II Memorial in Washington. The event was held to ensure that the service and sacrifices of the brave men and women who fought in World War II would be remembered Dec. 7, the 68th Anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor.
Wreaths were laid by representatives from the United States Navy, the National Park Service, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Friends of the National World War II Memorial. Hosting the ceremony was Superintendent John Piltzecker, superintendent for the National Mall and Memorial Parks, National Park Service.
An Armed Forces Color Guard and a brass quintet from The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own" provided military ceremonial support along with representatives from The U.S. Navy and the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard). These service members participated to pay their respect to those who served in World War II.
