CHIÈVRES AIR BASE, Belgium – Meaningful connections can begin through something as simple as sharing a basketball court, starting a conversation or checking on a teammate. The third annual suicide prevention 3-on-3 basketball tournament brought together Soldiers, Department of the Army civilians, Families, leaders and community partners through friendly competition on Sept. 12, 2026, at the Chièvres Air Base Fitness Center.

“There were so many amazing people and agencies that played a role in the event being bigger, better and brighter during year three,” said Aliyah Negley, USAG Benelux ASAP chief. “Their participation reinforced a central principle of AR 600-92: suicide prevention is a shared, community-wide responsibility requiring coordinated support from leaders, prevention professionals, helping agencies, peers and Families.”

Negley hopes the community remembers that no one has to face a difficult season alone.

“We are stronger together – connect to protect; every member of our community has a role in suicide prevention,” said Negley. “When someone may be struggling, engage that person with genuine care and connect them with the appropriate support.”
