What is the single plan within the deployment and redeployment processes that, if it fails, can cause mission failure of an operation, before execution—whether for combat, contingency, disaster relief, humanitarian assistance, or training exercise?
If you guessed the installation deployment support plan, consider yourself one of the few individuals who understand a key enabler to mission success of any operation requiring deployment or redeployment of unit equipment and personnel.
The IDSP is the senior commander’s plan used to effectively and efficiently prepare and deploy units off an installation or redeploy units onto the installation. The installation transportation officer and unit movement officer use the IDSP routinely to execute, plan, and train for deployment and redeployment operations. Unit commanders, other leaders, and Soldiers in the chain of command must become familiar with the IDSP.
It should be used whenever conducting a command deployment discipline program inspection, deployment excellence award evaluation, deployment readiness exercise, emergency deployment readiness exercise, or any unit movement in support of an operation or training event.
An accurate and current IDSP represents an installation’s capability to deploy and redeploy units to and from a theater of operation. It also provides an installation the framework to plan, manage, and execute unit deployments and redeployments.
Furthermore, it enables the optimum use of resources and allows for synchronization of multiple activities and events simultaneously, while aligning with strategic lift timelines at ports of embarkation.
The most important thing about the IDSP is the awareness of its existence by all personnel, support organizations, and units involved in the deployment and redeployment processes.
To learn about the IDSP or obtain guidance for developing one and its exercise evaluation program, they are discussed in Department of the Army Pamphlet 525-93 Army Deployment and Redeployment Processes and Procedures. Additional IDSP information is available on the Deployers Toolbox website: https://armyeitaas.sharepoint-mil.us/sites/TR-SCoE-DPMO/SitePages/Deployment-Process-Modernization-Office.aspx (CAC-enabled).
