Here are some guidelines to plan and prepare effectively.

Before the Outage:

  • Try to limit grocery purchases in the 24–48 hours leading up to the outage, especially for refrigerated goods.
  • Use or freeze perishable food items before the outage, if possible.
  • Prepare ice packs or freeze containers of water in advance to help keep your refrigerator and freezer cooler for a longer duration.
  • Fully charge all mobile phones, laptops, power banks, medical devices, and any other electronics.
  • Unplug household electrical items (coffee makers, lamps, Alexa’s, fans etc.) and high value items (TVs, computers etc.) in the event of a power surge(s).
  • Make sure flashlights and battery-powered lanterns have new batteries and avoid using candles whenever you can.
  • If you depend on electric-powered medical devices, arrange for alternatives before the outage, and inform your healthcare provider if you need help.

During the Outage:

  • As much as possible, keep the doors of your refrigerator and freezer closed. A closed refrigerator can typically keep food cold for about 4 hours, while a full freezer can keep its contents safely frozen for about 48 hours if not opened.
  • Limit the opening of outside doors to maintain indoor temperature.
  • Unplug sensitive electronic devices to protect them from potential power surges when the electricity returns.
  • Keep one light on to indicate when the power has come back.
  • Utilize battery-operated lights whenever feasible.
  • Check in with neighbors who might need extra help, especially elderly individuals or
  • Families with special requirements.

Once Power is Restored:

  • Reconnect electronics only after the power has stabilized.
  • Ensure that all appliances are functioning correctly.
  • Review refrigerated items for safety. If any food has been above 40°F (4°C) for too long, discard it as it may not be safe to eat.

Report any maintenance concerns related to power through the Army Maintenance Application (ArMA) or by reaching out to the Housing Maintenance Service Order Desk at DSN 587- 1777 or Civ. 09641-70-587-1777.

This outage is part of a planned infrastructure upgrade aimed at improving the long-term reliability of electrical service in the Katterbach Elementary school and housing community.

We will make every effort to restore power quickly, but unexpected issues may influence restoration times.

Residents are advised to prepare ahead to reduce inconvenience during the temporary loss of power.

We thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation as these vital improvements are made. Your readiness will help lessen the impact of the outage on you and your Family.
