CSM Christopher R. Carey

Command Sergeant Major Christopher R. Carey​ is a native of Springtown, Texas. He enlisted in the​ Army in August 1995 and attended 19D Cavalry Scout One Station Unit Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky.​

CSM Carey has served in every leadership position from Team Leader through nominative level Sergeant Major. His most recent positions include Transformation and Training Command Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7 Sergeant Major, Austin, Texas; Training and Doctrine Command Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7 Sergeant Major, Fort Eustis, Virginia; Brigade Command Sergeant Major of 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss Texas; and Armor Proponent Sergeant Major, Office of the Chief of Armor, United States Army Armor School, Fort Benning Georgia.​

He is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Senior Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Basic Leaders Course, and Air Assault Course. CSM Carey has an Associate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.​

His operational deployments include Bosnia (Stabilization Force), Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom -2 tours), Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom), Lithuania (Atlantic Resolve) and Korea (KRF-11). ​

CSM Carey’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit (2 OLC), Bronze Star (2 OLC)), Meritorious Service Medal (6 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), Presidential Unit Citation Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct (9 Knots), National Defense Service Medal (BZS), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (3 CS), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 5), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 5), NATO Medal (Numeral 2), Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge, and German Armed Force Weapons Proficiency Gold Badge. He is also a recipient of the Order of Saint Maurice, Order of Saint Barbara, and Order of Saint George Silver Medallion.​

CSM Carey is married to Nicole Carey. Together they have four children - Joci, Madi, Elijah, and Brae, along with 3 grandchildren. ​
