Fat Thursday celebrated as 'sweetest day of the year'

The people of Poland eat more and more doughnuts every year, queuing up to bakeries and eagerly choosing home-baked goods.

Fat Thursday is a traditional Polish holiday celebrated on the last Thursday before Lent, symbolically marking the end of Carnival. Traditionally, doughnuts and angel wings are eaten on this day, and superstition holds that eating even one doughnut brings good luck for the entire year.

In the past, fatty, savory dishes were consumed; today, sweets with rose, custard, or chocolate fillings reign supreme. It's a joyful day when calories take a back seat, and pleasure and upholding tradition are paramount. Year after year, Polsih residents eat more and more doughnuts, lining up at pastry shops and eagerly reaching for homemade baked goods.

Defense Ministry: Bolesławiec a symbolic investment site for Fort Trump

According to the minister's announcement, the cost of creating a base in the Bolesławiec area may amount to approximately PLN 2 billion.

Construction of the so-called Fort Trump, the planned infrastructure for American troops in Poland, is already underway - announced Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz during a press conference on Monday. - One of the key points on the map of this investment is Bolesławiec.

The Minister of National Defense emphasized that the project is no longer just a concept, but a process being implemented in stages. One of the first elements will be the expansion of transport infrastructure, including the airport in Wrocław. This is where the main transshipment port intended to serve American armed forces will be built.

According to the minister's announcement, the cost of establishing the base in the Bolesławiec area could reach approximately 2 billion złoty. Additional funds – estimated at half a billion – are expected to come from, among other sources, the provincial government and joint investments by the Polish and American sides. According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, the project is further confirmation of the growing military cooperation between Poland and the United States.

During the conference, the minister also referred to other projects related to the presence of US troops in Poland, noting that American soldiers highly value the conditions of service in Poland, and that the planned infrastructure in Lower Silesia is to be further developed in the future.

Although the investment has previously been discussed publicly, local authorities in Bolesławiec have been unable to determine the exact details of the planned activities. It's possible, however, that the project will encompass not only the city itself but also the wider Bolesławiec County.

At this time, no work schedule or specific locations for the planned investments have been provided, and further details will be revealed as preparations progress.
