The perennial champion Redstone Ten-Miler Team meets for practice at predawn each Saturday at Vincent Park. Its journey to the Army’s annual quintessential race in October is already underway.
This is the 41st year for the Army Ten-Miler, Oct. 12 in Washington, D.C., and Redstone has earned 28 eagle trophies so far. Last year the Rockets again won both the all-comers division and the government agency division. After a break in 2020-22 because of the pandemic, their dual championship winning streak resumed in 2023 and 2024.
From 2007-19, Redstone won 13 consecutive championships in the government agency division and 11 consecutive titles in the all-comers division.
The Rockets longtime coach is Harry Hobbs, Huntsville Utilities vice president for employee engagement and a retired Army chief warrant officer 5.
This year’s lineup includes all-comers division, Blaise Binns, Joey Schlich, Tony Echols, Jay Day, Will Rodgers, Josh Cornett, Beck Mitchell and Hobbs; government agency division, Josh Whitehead, Dominick Borreggine, Hunter Nails, Gabriel Henneberger, Allan Anderson, Matt Casiano, Sean Allan and assistant coach Skip Vaughn.
“It has been an honor and privilege to have coached the team alongside coach Skip since 2004,” Hobbs said. “Each year has been a wonderful journey to strengthen teammate bonds and represent Redstone Arsenal at the premier Ten-Miler race in America.”
Casiano, 48, of Huntsville, an aerospace engin
eer at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, joined the team in 2017 and enters his sixth year.
“This race is always a lot of fun,” he said. “I look forward to this race every year. Team camaraderie as well as meeting personal goals make this trip worth every bit of effort that goes into it.”
To help fund their trip, the annual Glow in the Park 5K will be held 7 p.m. Saturday at John Hunt Cross Country Park, 2151 Airport Road SW, Huntsville. The 5K registration is $45. For information email info@runninglane.com.
