Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 2, Wilson Gate is scheduled to reopen with limited weekday hours, excluding training and federal holidays.
The gate will operate from 6-9 a.m. with one inbound lane and outbound lanes open, and again from 3-6 p.m. for outbound-only traffic.
This limited reopening is possible thanks to the support of on-post units and organizations that provided Soldiers to complete the required training and certification for gate guard duties, augmenting the existing force.
“After resourcing and manning challenges forced the closure of Wilson Gate in July, we have worked continuously to find a feasible and sustainable solution to reopen the gate, even in limited capacity,” said Fort Knox Garrison Commander Col. Dave Holstead. “While circumstances such as attrition and the ongoing hiring freeze remain, this solution allows an additional option to access the post from Hardin, LaRue and Nelson counties. I want to personally thank all the leaders across the installation who provided their Soldiers to make this happen at the expense of their mission requirements.”
