Tyler Pitman, Army Corrections Brigade, portrays an inmate in a skit, trying to get a head start from runners who intend to catch him, before the start of the Great Escape 5K race Aug. 9, 2025, at the Old U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The opening skit involving an escaped inmate is part of the race tradition, which is in its 30th year. The race route took runners past historic parts of the installation.
