ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. – In accordance with Army-wide initiatives driving the civilian workforce to transform in contact, the CECOM Integrated Logistics Support Center honored two members of its workforce with Civilian Service Achievement Medals.
CECOM ILSC Executive Director Nicole D. Osaghae presented both honorees with their medals during the ILSC’s quarterly awards ceremony, which concluded a recent town hall focused on the organization’s transformative power. These accolades are especially relevant now as the Army prepares for potential large-scale combat operations and needs valuable contributions from its civilian workforce to remain agile and lethal.
CECOM ILSC Division Chief Kellie Roth was recognized for her exemplary work in taking ownership of her directorate’s engagement strategy, trend analysis, and an action plan for the past fiscal year. Her expertise and knowledge critically aid the ILSC in strengthening relationships with its industry partners. “I am genuinely impressed by Roth’s bond with the workforce,” ILSC Associate Director Walter Flood said. “She has the innate talent to connect the dots between mission and people. She makes it look easy!”
CECOM ILSC leadership appreciates Roth’s professionalism and dedication, which enable her to seamlessly establish program objectives and develop plans to accomplish them. “Being a part of this team isn’t just a job; it’s a privilege,” she said. “We show up, we show out, and we lift each other up. As a supervisor, I’m proud of the culture where we support our teammates and genuinely celebrate wins!”
Logistics data specialist Rueben Checkley II accepted his medal for supporting the Army’s evolving communications security posture, which protects our national security systems, network, and information from bad actors across the globe. Checkley developed a COMSEC dashboard that allows leaders to identify areas needing additional support, thereby maintaining the integrity of U.S. communication systems.
“His initiative, technical skills, and dedication have significantly improved the Army's ability to safeguard sensitive information and maintain a robust COMSEC posture in an increasingly complex threat environment,” CECOM ILSC Division Chief James McCabe said. “Mr. Checkley's work is a testament to his commitment to excellence and his profound understanding of the critical role of COMSEC in protecting Army operations.” Commanders and senior leaders recognize this dashboard as a COMSEC Health Assessment Tool, enabling stakeholders to access a variety of readiness reports related to COMSEC equipment.
The Army must actively embrace technology to accommodate the warfighter, and advances such as this tool enhance decision-making and awareness across the enterprise. Checkley’s work broke new ground in the area of COMSEC, helping the Army deter enemy combatants who seek to compromise vital communications among American Soldiers and our allies. “It's never about being the best individual,” says Checkley. “The truly great ones know it's about the team, not personal glory. The goal is to give your best for all four quarters, for the team, every time.”
