Tobyhanna Army Depot recognized another outstanding leader during the organization’s quarterly leadership meeting last week.
Jonathan Gaydos, chief of the System Paint Branch, was named Tobyhanna’s Supervisor of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of the 2025 fiscal year. Award recipients are nominated by peers or their superiors, then selected by a panel of judges based upon four criteria: accomplishment of their duties; how effectively they set an example to others; efforts to improve the depot productivity; and how they display selfless service in accordance with Army values.
Cable & Electrical Fabrication Division Chief Eugene Haikes nominated Gaydos for the honor.
“Jonathan is the one to call when things need to get done,” Haikes said. “In addition, he is extremely organized, dedicated, and focused on continuously learning,” adding that Gaydos freely gives his own time to support teammates with professional – and personal – issues.
In the nomination packet, Haikes also outlined how Gaydos’ focus on efficiency has benefited both employees and the warfighter. One such example is the implementation of visual management worksheets to ensure artisans across shifts in the same production area can track task completion. Haikes wrote that the worksheets ensure there is little confusion as to where one shift leaves off and where another should pick up, saving time and money for the Department of Defense.
A member of Team Tobyhanna for 18 years, Gaydos previously worked as a painter and a work leader. He also completed several deployments to Southwest Asia, where he performed site lead duties and gained experience directing others.Above all, Gaydos notes that his leadership style has been defined by his family.
“I see myself as a coach, and I learned that from my dad, Dave. He always tried to show how to do something as opposed to telling us, and he encouraged us to always keep learning. I absolutely see his influence on me as a leader every day,” he said, adding that becoming a father himself further shaped his leader identity.
“Fatherhood changes you and the skills I learned as a father are the basis for the leader I am today. I am more patient and empathetic as a leader and being a dad has helped me realize that the end goal for my team is for them to grow into their next chapters – just like my kids.”
When asked about his best advice for fellow leaders, the awardee encourages others to keep it simple.
“Do the right thing. You’ll never be wrong if you do the right thing for the right reasons.”
Gaydos says receiving the award was a complete surprise, but he can’t take all the credit.
“The award is a milestone achievement. Over many years, I’ve worked really hard and I appreciate the recognition. I truly could not have done it without my team.”
