Not every mention of the Green Platoon references Soldiers. Army Contracting Command-Redstone Arsenal has its own version consisting of Army contracting civilians in a three-year fellowship program designed to develop contracting professionals.

The latest Green Platoon graduation, hosted by ACC-Redstone Arsenal Director Joseph Giunta Jr., was held Nov. 12 at Toftoy Hall. This milestone symbolizes successful completion of the academic portion of the program. Giunta praised the talents of the fellows and highlighted their stellar contribution to the organization. Prior to graduation, they executed 1,400 actions with obligations exceeding $1 billion.

Maj. Gen. Douglas Lowrey, commander of the Army Contracting Command, was the guest speaker. He challenged the graduates to connect with one another as they embark on their career, to accept and own their empowerment, to take pride in their work, and to win every day.

The 37 Green Platoon graduates onboarded in fiscal year 2022 and now join the permanent workforce as GS-11 contracting professionals with Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act certification.

The fellows were exposed to different acquisitions processes, methods and ideas through two rotational assignments. They are posed to enter their third rotation and accept more on-the-job training with increased roles and responsibilities.

“The Green Platoon Fellows Program is a strategic initiative designed to cultivate prospective candidates for the 1102 contracting specialist career field within the federal workforce,” Jan-Pierre Malboeuf, chief of the Green Platoon, said. “This program aims to create a robust pipeline of skilled professionals by providing extensive hands-on training, academic certification, and real-world experience. As part of the Army Contracting Command and aligned with the Department of Defense’s objectives, the Green Platoon program is critical in ensuring a qualified workforce is ready to meet current and future contracting needs.”
