FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Soldiers of all ranks, senior leaders and community members gathered Sept. 29 to officially cut the ribbon on the Rally Point Bistro, opening Fort Bragg’s first Campus-Style Dining Venue.

Located across from the Soldier Support Center, the venue reimagines traditional military food service by replacing standard cafeteria-style lines with an interactive, college-style dining experience. Managed in partnership with Compass Group USA, Inc., the facility offers extended, continuous operating hours, digital ordering kiosks, locally sourced menus and performance-focused nutrition aligned with the Army’s Holistic Health and Fitness system.

The Fort Bragg opening represents the fourth operational launch under the Army’s initial five-installation CSDV pilot, following successful openings at Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Carson, Colorado; and Fort Drum, New York.

Addressing an audience of distinguished visitors, Gold Star families and Soldiers, Lt. Gen. Gavin A. Lawrence, deputy commanding general and acting commander of U.S. Army Materiel Command, framed the opening not merely as the debut of a dining concept, but as a cultural shift in how the military fuels its force.

“Rally Point Bistro represents change in how we think about the Army food service ecosystem," Lawrence said. "Campus-style dining venues give Soldiers greater choices, better access, healthier options, and a dining experience designed around how Soldiers live, train and work.”

Lawrence emphasized that the initiative directly underpins warfighter readiness and Soldier quality of life.

“When we get food service right, ladies and gentlemen, the benefits extend well beyond the dining table,” Lawrence added. “Better food and better access help Soldiers perform at their best. It gives them the fuel they need to train, to recover, and to ultimately stay ready. And just as important, a great dining experience brings Soldiers together and strengthens that sense of community that is so important to our Army.”

The name borrows directly from an essential tactical term. In military operations, a rally point is a designated location where units reassemble, regain accountability, reorganize, and prepare to continue the mission. Operating with that same ethos, the bistro provides service members an environment to refuel and reset between demanding training cycles.

Peter Fetherston, chief executive officer of Compass Group’s business and industry sector, highlighted the global food provider's commitment to delivering scale, culinary excellence and technological reliability for service members.

“Increasingly now, there is evidence that not just physically, but in terms of mental well-being and cognitive performance, food and nutrition is at the heart of it all,” Fetherston said.

Fetherston shared a note left by a Soldier at 42 Bistro at Fort Hood that praised the impact of the CSDV’s on Soldier quality of life.

“In this simple message, I can’t think of a better way to capture and articulate what this is all about,” Fetherston said. “This is about providing excellence in food and hospitality, and an experience to all the people that allow us to enjoy the freedoms that we do. That’s what brings it more meaning. That’s what brings it more purpose. And I cannot stress enough how much we personally are invested in this.”

Inside, the venue offers a diverse culinary lineup ranging from custom grill items and handcrafted deli sandwiches to flatbreads, global street fare, seasonal salad bars and functional recovery smoothies. Following Tuesday’s grand opening lunch, the facility transitions to full continuous hours: 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on weekends and federal holidays. Unlike traditional dining facilities that shutter between meal services, the doors remain open all day, ensuring Soldiers can obtain food in line with their operational schedules.

For unaccompanied barracks Soldiers on meal cards, daily entitlements convert into a flexible $39 daily “Freedom Dollar” purchasing value at the digital ordering kiosks, while members of the installation community — including families, Department of the Army civilians, retirees and contractors — are welcome to dine and pay à la carte.

Operationally, partnering with commercial culinary contractors to run garrison facilities directly benefits warfighting readiness. By shifting day-to-day cafeteria operations to industry partners, Army culinary specialists are freed to focus entirely on their primary wartime mission: honing tactical field-feeding craft, participating in field exercises and preparing for combat deployments.

Future enhancements for Rally Point Bistro include the phased introduction of phone and app-based remote ordering, with planned deliveries to designated drop zones situated across Fort Bragg.

Closing his remarks, Lawrence reinforced the Army’s enduring obligation to the service members who train and fight out of the home of the airborne and special operations.

“This is more than just being about food — it’s about quality of life, it’s about community, it’s about readiness,” Lawrence said. “To the Soldiers and families of Fort Bragg, I want you to know that you deserve our very best. And today represents another step forward to delivering it.”

More information regarding daily menus, station schedules, and facility updates will be published through the My Army Post App and official installation communication channels.
