Karen Pane Appointed Director of the Civilian Human Resources Agency

Karen Pane assumed the role of Director of the Civilian Human Resources Agency (CHRA) on Dec. 1, 2024. Pane, who brings a wealth of experience from her prior position as the Director of Human Resources at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is poised to lead the agency toward new heights in modernization and innovation.

With a track record of success in various key leadership positions across the federal sector, Pane’s appointment as the new CHRA Director is met with optimism and high expectations. Her extensive background in human resources management, workforce planning, and talent management makes her a valuable addition to the agency which services more than 263 thousand Army Civilians as well as an additional 65 thousand Department of Defense employees like Defense Health Agency (DHA) and Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA).

In her previous role at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pane oversaw comprehensive human resources programs for a large civilian and military workforce. Her leadership and strategic vision were instrumental in driving initiatives that promoted employee engagement, development, and overall organizational effectiveness.

Upon taking on her new position at CHRA, Pane expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity to contribute to the agency’s mission and vision. “Leveraging my experience, I am committed to advancing our mission of enterprise-wide civilian recruitment, outreach, and retention. Together, we will ensure our workforce is equipped with the resources and opportunities needed to excel, driving success for the Army and beyond,” said Karen Pane, Director, U.S. Army Civilian Human Resources Agency.

“The G-1 team is excited to have her onboard. Her years of experience in the people space coupled with her HR experience makes her uniquely qualified to lead CHRA,” said Roy Wallace, Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, G-1, Headquarters, Department of the Army. “She has the vision and ability to implement new processes as we continue to enhance the readiness of our Army Civilian team,” he said.

CHRA’s mission to support a highly skilled and ready professional civilian workforce that contributes to national defense aligns seamlessly with Pane’s commitment to fostering an environment where employees can thrive and grow professionally.
