The Poznań Center conducted the first such presentation in the world. "The future is happening before our eyes!"
We mentioned about the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs announced that the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center was the first in the world to present the transcontinental use of networks and production services to support hybrid computing systems combining quantum and classical technologies. Two test stands were used for the presentation: one located at the PCSS in Poznań, and the other at the SC24 conference in Atlanta, USA.
"Quantum computing offers enormous opportunities for the research and education community, as well as for commercial enterprises. Quantum computers have the potential to solve problems that go far beyond the current reach of classical computations, from simulating the folding of complex proteins and predicting meteorological phenomena to modeling financial systems," the Ministry of Digital Affairs informs.
" The Ministry of Digital Affairs is co-financing the purchase of the EuroQCS-Poland quantum computer. The new computer at the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (PCSS) will start operating in mid-2025. The joint project of the Ministry of Digital Affairs and EuroHPC JU will allow for the further development of quantum technologies in Poland," it was recalled.
The famous film festival starts in Poznań! The programme also includes a farewell party for Multikino 51
The 42nd edition of the International Young Audience Festival "Ale Kino!" began on Sunday and will last until December 1. The program includes over 100 films from around the world. "Ale Kino!" is an annual event dedicated to promoting cinema for young viewers. During the festival, viewers will be able to see both award-winning productions from international festivals and directorial debuts.
During the festival, you will be able to see live-action films, short films and animations. For those who like surprises, a secret screening has been prepared. This is a film screening that will take place in a secret place, and the title of the film will be known only before it begins. All we know is that it is for people aged six and over. During "Ale Kino!" there will also be a special screening of the new Netflix animation "Zaklęci".
There will also be a screening prepared entirely by young people ("Holiday Thoughts. Short Films"). "During the holidays, a group of children aged 10 to 13 watched a dozen or so films and, as a result of discussions, chose those that were included in the festival program," it was reported.
People who love books and cinema can also count on attractions.
"An important point of the program will be the ceremonial farewell to Multikino 51 (it will cease operating at the beginning of 2025), the long-time host of "Ale Kino!". Festival participants will say goodbye to it in the hall of the iconic cinema - with a bang, but quietly - during Silent Disco," it was announced.
More information can be found on the festival website.
One of Poznań's schools is experiencing a siege of visitors today. What can you see?
Poznań Technical School once again reminds us of its railway traditions.
As we have already announced on our website, once again you can take part in the traditional Katarzynki organized on the premises of the Poznań Communication School Complex on Fredry Street.
"On the occasion of the feast of the patron saint of railway workers - St. Catherine, we invite young and older generations of Poznań residents, especially those who have a sentiment for railways - both real and miniature. The Poznań Railway Modelers Club operating at the school is organizing an exhibition of railway models and mock-up shows. This year, Poznań modelers, among whom are many students and graduates of the school, will present several different railway mock-ups and a collection of locomotive and wagon models from different eras of railway history" - announced Maciej Bulski, board member of the Poznań Railway Modelers Club.
The stationary model is the largest club railway model in Poland. It is constantly being improved and beautified. There are also two modular models, which are a faithful reproduction of the Międzychód and Międzychód Letnisko stations in the H0 1:87 scale. During the event, you can also see an educational model, on which school students learn how to control train traffic using control devices, as well as a TT scale model and a narrow-gauge railway model in the H0e scale. There is also a simulator of a real locomotive, where anyone interested will be able to sit behind the ET22 electric locomotive panel and drive a train under the supervision of an instructor.
The exhibition can be viewed on Saturday until 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. " The modelers will allocate the funds for admission tickets (PLN 20 standard ticket, PLN 10 concession ticket, PLN 50 family ticket, PLN 15 ticket for pensioners) for further expansion and modernization of the models," adds Bulski.
The Poznań Railway Modellers Club is a social organization and was founded in 1985, and obtained legal personality in 1988, which makes it one of the oldest associations on this subject in Poland.
Was 2024 an exceptionally good year for Poznań tourism? "We want a tourist who brings benefits, not a source of problems"
Jacek Jaśkowiak sums up 2024 in terms of benefits from tourism for Poznań.
The President of Poznań assured that the city is doing everything to attract tourists who will use both the hotel and the restaurants.
- We are trying to develop tourism in a sustainable way. Our investments, such as the modernization of the Old Market Square or the Center Project, are to serve tourists, but above all, residents. We also want the events we organize and support to attract tourists who bring benefits to the city, and not who are a source of problems and nuisances, who will use Poznań hotels, restaurants, and cultural institutions - informs the mayor of Poznań.
Jacek Jaśkowiak assured that this strategy is working, as the data for recent years are supposed to show. 2024 was an exceptionally good year for Poznań tourism. During the summer, hotel occupancy increased from 59% to a record in Poznań's history of 70%. It was even better in September, 76%, and October, 78%.
As a result, from January to the end of October this year, the average hotel occupancy rate was 68.7% and was 6.6% higher than a year ago. A larger number of tourists means specific benefits for local entrepreneurs in many industries, hotel, catering, and services - sums up the mayor of Poznań.

Opening of the Studio Gallery of Ancient Art
The National Museum in Poznań proudly invites you to the opening of the Studio Gallery of Ancient Art - a new, unique space that combines exhibition, educational and research functions. The official inauguration will take place on November 23, 2024 in the renovated basements of the old building.
After a thorough renovation, the gallery has been divided into three sections, each offering unique experiences to visitors. Its central point is the studio warehouse, where the entire collection of ancient art monuments will be presented. Next to it is a stylized office connected to a small research laboratory. Behind the glass doors of this room, visitors will be able to observe the daily work of the gallery curator. The third section is a place intended for temporary exhibitions, supplemented by educational activities.
- The third permanent exhibition this year is a great joy and pride for us in the work, the wonderful work of the entire museum team. This exhibition is different from those we have made available to our visitors so far. Because we have never opened an exhibition in the Poznań Museum that is also a studio warehouse - says Dr. Maria Gołąb, deputy director for science. The Studio Gallery of Ancient Art will be another of the newly opened permanent exhibitions of the National Museum.
The inaugural exhibition in the new gallery is entitled "Tanagryjka. On the threshold of femininity". This exhibition is dedicated to terracotta figurines produced in the Hellenistic period. They gained enormous popularity at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The exhibition will present a collection of 30 copies of figurines made in the late 19th century in the studio of Fritz Gurlitt, which have been in the collections of the National Museum in Poznań since 1900.
In addition, the gallery opening program includes numerous accompanying events. On Saturday, November 23, at 12:00 and 14:00, there will be a meeting "Voilà! Galeria odkryta", during which curator Wojciech Jenerałek and arranger Wojciech Luchowski will talk about the ideas and behind the scenes of creating the new space. On Sunday, November 24, from 11:00 to 13:00, visitors will have the opportunity to talk to the curator about the work of an archaeologist and the process of creating an innovative arrangement of the gallery and the exhibition "Tanagryjka. At the threshold of femininity". On the same day, at 14:00, 15:00 and 16:00, there will be student lectures entitled "Tanagryjka in a nutshell", during which Klaudia Kornas and Wiktor Piekarz will present the extraordinary history of ancient terracotta figurines.
What's more, a week later - on December 1, sculpture workshops will be held in the newly opened space, led by Poznań artist Robert Sobociński. During the classes, participants will be able to not only hear about what working with clay, stone, bronze involves, but also touch various materials and tools of the artist. Registration for the event is required by phone at 61 85 68 136 or by e-mail at k.sibilska@mnp.art.pl . The cost is included in the price of the entrance ticket to the National Museum - PLN 20 (regular), PLN 13 (concession) and PLN 1 for pupils and students.
The studio gallery is a multi-year project that aims to show both the beauty and the specificity of ancient art, spanning a period of almost 6,000 years. This new museum space not only presents collections, but also allows you to learn about the behind-the-scenes work of museum workers, including modern methods of preserving monuments and cabinet research. Together, this will be a real treat for every lover of history, especially ancient history.
