By Sgt. 1st Class Jessica ForesterNovember 19, 2024

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany – For the second year in a row, U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers and U.S. Navy Sailors joined together on NCO field at Daenner Kaserne for the Army vs. Navy flag football shadow game, Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024.

The 7th Mission Support Command hosted the game, bringing together U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers and U.S. Navy Sailors from around the Kaiserslautern Military Community.

Master Sgt. Cassandra Ortiz, a newly assessed operations NCO for the 7th, found herself poised on the line of scrimmage with new coworkers across from a motivated Navy team.

“I had a blast playing flag football in the Army vs. Navy game,” said Ortiz. “It was a great experience seeing how quickly we could come together, communicate effectively, and work as a team, even though a few of us had never worked together before.

She went on to elaborate on the value outside of military skills like how to shoot, move and communicate.

“Events like this are incredibly valuable; they build camaraderie and sharpen our teamwork skills under fun but challenging circumstances. I’d definitely say it’s something the command should keep doing – it strengthens bonds and boosts morale across the board."
