Saturday morning at Vincent Park. A group of runners gather for the start of their annual journey to represent Redstone.

The perennial champion Redstone Ten-Miler Team practices together each week in preparation for the 40th annual Army-Ten Miler, Oct. 13 in Washington, D.C.

Last year the team recaptured its dual championships in its first trip back since 2019 because of the pandemic. From 2007-19, Redstone won 13 consecutive championships in the government agency division and 11 consecutive titles in the all-comers division.

The 2023 titles made 26 eagle trophies in the long-distance running event’s 39 years. Six of Redstone’s 16 runners last year were new.

“The teams this year look to be the strongest we have ever had,” coach Harry Hobbs said. “We are excited to once again represent Redstone Arsenal on the big stage at the Army Ten-Miler and bring home two more eagle trophies.”

This year’s team has four new runners, 10 returnees and two members who have rejoined the team from past years. The newcomers include Joey Schlich, Jay Day, Allan Anderson and Hunter Nails.

“I am excited for the opportunity to represent the Redstone Arsenal in this year’s Army Ten-Miler race,” Anderson said. “I am looking forward to racing with such a great group of guys. I believe we have put together a team of men who are committed to putting forth their best effort to secure a couple of wins for Team Redstone.”

“I’m excited and honored to race with team RSA,” Nails said. “We’ve run a lot of miles getting fit and I can’t wait to see the results and experience the Army Ten-Miler with the team.”

Will Rodgers is among the returnees from last year. “We’re going to D.C. and we’re not

taking any prisoners, only two more eagles,” he said.

The team represents a cross section of Redstone and the surrounding community. The runners include active duty and retired Soldiers, Army civilians, NASA workers and others from the local area.

Here is the Redstone roster:

·        All-Comers division: Schlich, Tim Vinson, Day, Matt Casiano, Blaise Binns, Josh Cornett, Beck Mitchell and Hobbs.

·        Government Agency division: Quinton Watkins, Bo Brawner, Ryan Seballos, Anderson, Nails, Rodgers, Sean Allan and assistant coach Skip Vaughn.
