
FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — Fort Leonard Wood is set to celebrate the 83rd anniversary of the U.S. Army Military Police Corps during the 2024 MP Regimental Week, scheduled Sept. 23 to 26.
According to U.S. Army Military Police School Commandant Col. Charles Green the theme for this year’s celebration is, “Steadfast through Change, Marechaussee to Multi-Domain.”
Green said the regiment “ties our (military police) history to the Marechaussee Corps in General Washington’s Continental Army, which ties us through that period all the way to our current Army doctrine of multi-domain operations.”
This year’s events include:
· MP Memorial Tribute, Sept. 23: The ceremony is set to begin at 9 a.m. in Memorial Grove. The tribute will be live streamed on the U.S. Army Fort Leonard Wood Facebook page and is open to individuals with access to Fort Leonard Wood.
· Regimental Retreat, Sept. 23: The retreat will begin at 4:30 p.m. on the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence Plaza. Those unable to attend can watch online on the U.S. Army Fort Leonard Wood Facebook page.
· Regimental Bass Tournament, Sept. 24: The tournament begins with onsite registration at 5:30 a.m. and will be held at Public Beach No. 2 in Osage Beach, Missouri. Cost is $25 per boat. Each boat must have at least one active-duty service member, veteran, active or retired law enforcement officer or first responder or USAMPS employee on board. Pre-registration is available by calling 573.855.4965.
· Order of the Cross Pistols Spouse Event, Sept. 24: Military spouses are invited to participate in a day of MP activities starting at 8 a.m. at Abrams Theater. Activities include a 5k ruck, MP working dog demo and physical endurance course. Cost to participate is $7. · Regimental Pickleball Tournament, Sept. 24: The tournament will kick off at 4 p.m. in Swift Gym and will consist of two categories; recreational level for those new to the game and competitive level. Register by Sept. 20 by calling 417.664.5370
· Regimental Ride, Sept. 25: Motorcycle riders are scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. at the Main Post Chapel. Email brody.k.brockway.mil@army.mil or call 309.339.9597 to register.
· Regimental Golf Tournament, Sept. 25: Piney Valley Golf Course is hosting the tournament. Participants will tee off at 9 a.m. This event has already reached maximum capacity for participants.
· Regimental Command Sgt. Maj. James W. Frye NCO of Excellence Award Ceremony, Sept. 26: USAMPS will recognize the hard work and dedication during a presentation at 9 a.m. in Lincoln Hall Auditorium. The event is scheduled to be live streamed on the U.S. Army Fort Leonard Wood Facebook page for those unable to attend.
· Hall of Fame induction, Sept. 26: MP Soldiers who made a significant impact to the regiment will be inducted at 1 p.m. in Lincoln Hall Auditorium. Those unable to attend can watch online at the U.S. Army Fort Leonard Wood Facebook page.
· Regimental Ball, Sept. 26: The week’s activities conclude with a regimental ball starting at 6:30 p.m. at Nutter Field House.
In addition to regimental week activities, competitors for the MP Warfighter Competition are set to begin arriving Sept. 20 to prepare for the three-day competition that will kick off Sept. 23.
The competition is designed to test the abilities of MPs in a variety of military occupational skill-specific tasks, as well as their mental and physical fitness.
The winners will be announced at 11 a.m. Sept. 26 during an award ceremony in Lincoln Hall Auditorium.
