The Vistula Festival has docked in Toruń

Concerts, ship parades, free cruises, educational and culinary stands – all this as part of the Vistula Festival, which will take place at Przystań Toruń on August 14-15, 2024.

The Vistula Festival, organized since 2017 by the Vistula Tourism Organization, unites in joint fun and cultivation of river traditions of cities and towns of our region located on the Vistula. This year's cruise around Kujawy and Pomerania, for the second year in a row, began in Włocławek on August 11, from where they sailed to Toruń via Ciechocinek. They will stay in our city on August 14-15, and on August 16 they will set off further, all the way to Bydgoszcz. The main theme of the event is rafting traditions, entered on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Rafters who moored their boats in Toruń on Wednesday were welcomed by President Paweł Gulewski:

Hello to all the raftsmen. The Vistula Festival connects three cities: Włocławek, Toruń and Bydgoszcz. Cities located on the most beautiful and picturesque river in Poland, which is connected with the identity of these three urban centers. Toruń is a Hanseatic city, once living off the Vistula. A city that drew from everything that is good, that is connected with this queen of Polish rivers. Thanks to NOT, the Festival management and you, we are creating something amazing, and we want to continue doing it!

The President presented the festival management and the Mysłowice raftsmen present on stage with small gifts, including Toruń gingerbread. On behalf of the Toruń City Council, Councilor Bartłomiej Jóźwiak presented the Festival Director Marcin Karasiński with a commemorative painting with a panorama of Toruń.

The organizers of the Vistula Festival have prepared a number of attractions. Among them are concerts, ship parades, and free cruises. The Toruń Social Services Center has set up its stand on the first day.

On Thursday, August 15, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., a fair will be held - educational and promotional stands will be open, presenting old crafts and professions, including shipbuilding, ropemaking, ship carpentry, fishing, and the culture and folklore of the Vistula regions. There will also be something for those eager for culinary experiences. From 11:00 to 21:30, culinary stands and stands offering regional products will be open as part of the "Vistula Tastes" fair.

The highlight of the Toruń edition of the festival will be the "Między Mostami" sailing regatta. The competition will be available to watch at 2 p.m. In the evening, at 8:30 p.m., an atmospheric parade of festival boats and ships will take place on the Vistula River, in the light of flares and torches, a light-water-sound show.

Over a thousand Citroens in Toruń

The 17th International Meeting of Citroen Enthusiasts Clubs started on Wednesday in the Toruń Moto-Park on Łukasiewicza Street in Toruń.

We have been waiting for this event in Toruń for 9 years. I would like to thank all Citroen enthusiasts who have travelled many kilometres to be with us today. As a mecca of motorsport, our city will always be ready with open arms for the next editions of this exceptional event - said the mayor of Toruń Paweł Gulewski during the opening of the rally.  The Toruń City Council was represented during the inauguration of the rally by councillors Piotr Drążek and Michał Jakubaszek.

On August 14-18, 2024, Toruń will host 3,000 participants and over 1,000 vintage cars. As part of the 17th International Citroën Enthusiasts Clubs Meeting, the organizers have prepared a truly extensive program including Citroën club exhibitions, daily activities for children and adults, local rallies and concerts from classical music, jazz to rock, and for residents a parade along Philadelphia Boulevard combined with a concours d'élégance show and an exhibition. In addition, at the flea market you will be able to buy various products from Europe, try dishes from various cuisines and, of course, admire Citroën cars from different eras.

Our city is hosting this type of event for the second time. In the summer of 2015, we hosted the 21st International Citroen 2CV Enthusiasts Rally. At that time, we hosted participants from 40 countries around the world. Various years, colors and shapes, as well as funny and artistically decorated vehicles of the legendary brand brought smiles to the faces of passers-by and were a great attraction of Toruń for several days.

Polish National Guards competed with US soldiers in the Spur Ride

The two-day Spur Ride competition took place in Skwierzyna, with the participation of the Skwierzyna national guards and American soldiers. The Spur Ride has been a cavalry tradition in the United States Army since its inception. What do such competitions look like?

U.S. Army Soldiers from the 115th Brigade Support Battalion, which is stationed at the unit in Skwierzyna, invited the Skwierzyna National Guards to the Spur Ride competition.

What does a traditional Spur Ride competition look like? Participants began their training at dawn. The tasks they faced included:

-       folding and unfolding the weapon (M4 carbine) when tired,

-       evacuation of the wounded from the battlefield in difficult-to-access terrain,

-       assembling means of communication and establishing communication,

-       breaking fire contact.

Demanding competitions included transporting heavy elements from the center of Skwierzyna to the military unit (caterpillar tracks or Humvee wheel), as well as CrossFit at the physical fitness center (OSF) - says Lt. Anna Jasińska Pawlikowska from the 12th Greater Poland Territorial Defense Brigade. - The exercises were held under the supervision of American instructors, in full uniforms.

-Spur Ride is a competition to which we send strong competitors - says the company commander of the 151st BSB in Skwierzyna. - It is impossible to test your strength here without thorough physical preparation. The competitions are selected by instructors in such a way as to test your own endurance limits. In addition, soldiers must demonstrate the ability to work in a team.

Soldiers who successfully completed all of the Spur Ride events earned U.S. Cavalry spurs.
