Detroit Arsenal, Mich. -- Several hundred Detroit Arsenal teammates turned out this afternoon to participate in this month’s Retirement, Recognition and Retreat Ceremony, Army Birthday Celebration and first-ever Mega Right Arm Night at the flagpole on the South side of Bldg. 230.

The RRR ceremony, hosted by Brig. Gen. Michael Lalor, Detroit Arsenal Senior Commander, recognized retiring Soldiers along with many awardees from throughout the installation.

“This ceremony is our way of saying thanks to all the men and women for their selfless and dedicated service to our nation,” said Lalor. “And what’s going to become apparent today, and I’m always floored by it, is how long people have done it and done it so well. It’s what makes this place special. This Arsenal of Democracy, this new Arsenal of Innovation, the finest fusion of acquisitions, logistics and technology than anywhere

The general also used to opportunity to thank workers and those who contributed to this year’s Army Emergency Relief Fund. The Army Emergency Relief Fund helps a tremendous number of Soldiers and Family members and I thank each of you who contributed to help make that a possibility.

This year the Detroit Arsenal raised nearly $50,000 that will be used to provide grants, interest-free loans and scholarships to promote readiness and help relieve financial distress of Soldiers and their Families. Although the campaign period closes June 14, donations are accepted throughout the year at https://www.armyemergencyrelief.org/donate/.

Immediately following the ceremony and Army birthday celebration the Detroit Arsenal Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation kicked off their first-ever Mega Right Army Night.

“Reinvigorating the idea of the Right Arm Nights started last year and was General Lalor’s idea,” said Carrie Mead, garrison manager for the Detroit Arsenal. “It gives leaders on the installation an opportunity to celebrate and thank some of those ‘Right Arm’ people who we can’t do without. Our FMWR folks took it to the next level this month with all the activities and displays we have set up out here today.”

“I’m also thankful many of our off-installation partners were able to join us for today’s special celebration also,” added Mead. “What a great opportunity to spend some time with our community partners who help us do what we do at the arsenal.”

The Mega Right Arm Night included games such axe throwing and cornhole, vendor displays, food booths and displays of FMWR assets, music from the Army Band and was open to the whole installation.

RRR ceremonies are held quarterly on the arsenal and are normally followed with a Right Arm Night social. Please join if you can make it to our next right arm night July 17.
