FORT KNOX, Ky. — The installation’s long-standing tradition of opening up the post’s 121 cemeteries to the public annually has been rescheduled for Sept. 1. While this opportunity is offered on Memorial Day each year, it was cancelled in May 2024 due to inclement weather.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fort Knox will open several access points around the installation perimeter, welcoming visitors who wish to pay their respects to friends and family members interred here.

Those requiring a pass (ages 18 and older) are encouraged to pre-register at https://pass.aie.army.mil/steps/terms_of_use to obtain a pass. A valid driver’s license or ID and visitor’s pass will be required at all gates, along with a contact phone number for emergencies.

Officials remind visitors that all vehicles are subject to search upon entry. Prohibited items include firearms, alcohol, non-prescription drugs or glass containers of any kind, digging tools and metal detectors. Removal of artifacts is strictly prohibited.

Representatives of the Cultural Resources Office will be available at the Fort Knox Visitor’s Center during visitation hours to provide additional information on cemetery and access point locations and answer any questions.
