International Film Festival Tofifest Begins in Kujawy and Pomerania

The 22nd International Film Festival Tofifest in Kujawy and Pomerania begins today. During the opening gala, actresses Magdalena Różczka and Ewa Wiśniewska received awards.

The Polish Film Competition "From Poland" will kick off with a screening of "Sami swoi" at 7:30 p.m. at Cinema City, followed by a Q&A session with director Artur Żmijewski. Additionally, two films vying for the festival's Grand Prix, the Golden Angel, will be shown.

Summer Pools MOSiR Open in Toruń

The Municipal Sports and Recreation Centre (MOSiR) in Toruń has opened its summer swimming pools as of today.

The outdoor pools, recommended for those seeking a safe swim under the open sky, are located at:

  • The sports complex on “Na Skarpie”
  • The CT Park building in Bydgoskie Przedmieście
  • Camping Tramp

Lifeguard services are available on-site. Visitors can rent deckchairs and enjoy attractions such as aqua zorbing, which involves swimming in a transparent, inflatable sphere. The pools will remain open until August 31, 2024.

New Torvelo City Bike Station Opens on Philadelphia Boulevard

A new Torvelo city bike station has opened on Philadelphia Boulevard, beneath the Józef Piłsudski Bridge. The station is fully operational, offering 12 bike positions, eight of which were occupied on Monday afternoon.

The new station restores bike rental options in the Old Town area after the recent closure of the City Hall station. Torvelo users now have an additional location to end their rides when visiting the city center.

The Torvelo system in Toruń consists of 55 stations, including three double stations.

Heatwave to Hit Toruń, Hottest Days of the Year Expected

Toruń is bracing for its first major heatwave of the year, with temperatures expected to exceed 30 degrees Celsius. The heat will begin on Wednesday, peaking on Thursday and Friday.

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management has issued second-degree heat warnings for these days. Clear skies and no rain are forecasted, although a storm may occur on Saturday.

"The next few days will see a high-pressure system bringing hot air, resulting in temperatures exceeding 30 degrees for the first time this year in Toruń," said meteorologist Rafał Maszewski. "Expect plenty of sunshine and no precipitation."
