(From left) Col. Gregory Holmes, commander of the U.S. Army Security Assistance Management Organization (SATMO), had the honor of presenting the Purple Heart to CW4 Joshua Price May 17, 2024. Price was recognized for injuries sustained while serving as an Apache pilot in Iraq Oct. 7, 2021. SATMO was honored to have his family in attendance as well as the support of many of Price’s previous teammates to participate in the ceremony. The Purple Heart is a U.S. military decoration awarded in the name of the president to those wounded or killed while serving on or after April 5, 1917, with the U.S. military. With its forerunner, the Badge of Military Merit, which took the form of a heart made of purple cloth, the Purple Heart is the oldest military award still given to U.S. military members. SATMO is a subordinate organization of the U.S. Army Security Assistance Command, which develops and manages foreign military sales for the U.S. Army Materiel Command. FMS remains a critical component of U.S. foreign policy.
