FORT KNOX, Ky. — Members of the Fort Knox Directorate of Emergency Services on June 8 held their safety week Summer Safety Expo in partnership with Army and Air Force Exchange Service, at the post’s Main Exchange.
The event featured information on traffic, heat and conservation safety.
“Not a lot of people interact with law enforcement, and we want to give a better community picture – that we’re out here to help,” said Gerry LaPlace, Deputy Chief of Police Operations with the DES Law Enforcement Division.
Representatives from the Conservation Law Enforcement Division offered hunting and fishing advice, regulatory information, and answered questions pertaining to conservation law.
Military Police Investigations personnel were present as well, offering family emergency response information and advice, along with tips on gun safety.

Additionally, members from the Fort Knox Fire Department were present with a fire evacuation simulation trailer. The trailer featured a bedroom with a fog machine, simulating a house fire. Children were taught proper evacuation procedures before being given the opportunity to climb out of a window on the trailer assisted by DES personnel.
Exchange staff were present at the event to offer raffle items like a bicycle and provide mini games for children.
