The second annual Celebration of Life Luncheon will take place May 27 at the Roundhouse, immediately following the annual wreath-laying ceremony in honor of Memorial Day at the Huntsville Madison County Veterans Memorial.
The luncheon is expected to begin around 12:30 p.m.
The North Alabama Chapter of American Gold Star Mothers organizes and funds the luncheon to honor the area’s fallen Soldiers.
“It’s just an opportunity for Gold Star families to spend time together on this very special day,” Annette Hall, president of the chapter, said. “We want to celebrate, honor and remember our fallen together.”
In addition to the full lunch buffet, Redstone Senior Commander Lt. Gen. Chris Mohan is expected to give remarks, the North Alabama Patriot Guard Riders will host a cookie decorating table for the children, and there will be several displays honoring the area’s fallen.
Last year the event attracted about 120 people, and Hall is looking for that to increase by about 20% this year.
The group works to invite all of the Gold Star families in Redstone’s Survivor Outreach Service’s database.
Hall said if you’re a Gold Star family who didn’t receive an invite and would like to attend, contact her. Hall’s email is nettie5455@gmail.com.
The Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Huntsville Madison County Veterans Memorial will take place at 11 a.m.
