FORT KNOX, Ky. – Staff Sgt. Hamadi Diop, originally from Nouakchott, Mauritania, serves as a Recruiter at the Louisville East Recruiting Station in Louisville, Kentucky.
Diop joined the Army as a unit supply specialist to expand his logistics knowledge for a promising post-Army job. Having moved to the United States in 2000, the Army helped Diop obtain citizenship, which he said fueled his determination to advance and not take anything for granted.
Recognized for excellence, Diop earned a Meritorious Service Medal for being a Top 13 Recruiter for the first quarter of the 2024 fiscal year and a Joint Service Award for translating over 1,000 time-sensitive messages for the U.S. Africa Command.
“My goal is to provide opportunities for as many people as I can,” Diop said. “Everyone needs a chance, and the Army gave me that, so why not spread the love?”
Diop, who earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Austin Peay State University in 2022, said he hopes to continue making an impact for others the same way the Army and fellow Soldiers have impacted his life.
“I serve in the Army because the Army is like a family who never gives up on you,” Diop said. “There are so many opportunities and ways to progress in your career, and it will always provide the resources you need.”
Diop’s goals are to continue his education by pursuing a master’s degree and one day be promoted to sergeant major. Outside of work, his hobbies include fitness, traveling and basketball.
