FORT KNOX, Ky. — A large crowd of over 1,000 showed up at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff to honor fallen warriors with wreaths upon their headstones Dec. 16.

Two hours later, a large crowd showed up at Fort Knox Post Cemetery.

Whether because of ideal weather, desire to honor fallen heroes or because word of the events reached a big audience, both occasions saw people lingering at various plots after leaning wreaths up against the headstones. Some parents and Scout leaders took the opportunity to discuss respect and honor with the youth, something that Jonathan Scholl said is critically important.

“Thank you for joining us today as we celebrate our mission to remember the fallen, honor those that served and their families, and teach the next generation the value of freedom,” said Scholl, deputy commandant of 83rd Army Reserve Readiness Training Command and the event’s emcee.

At the Fort Knox ceremony, guest speaker Maj. Gen. Johnny Davis, commanding general of U.S. Army Recruiting Command and Fort Knox, said remembering the fallen is always important to the health of a nation.

“The weather’s great, and the showing,” said Davis. “There are so many wonderful people here today to help honor those who have served our nation, and we will always remember them. Today, we honor the 850 gravesites.

“Thanks for everybody’s help to make that happen; this is a big deal.”
