Well, the wait is over. Fort Knox Family and Moral, Welfare and Recreation has a lot of tricks and treats up its sleeve for this month.

Everything from karaoke to costume contests and rock walls are filling up the October calendar from this week leading up to Oct. 31.

Up first, Jinkies! Spooky Celebration at Barr Memorial Library, Oct. 19, 5-6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. They will have Scooby’s story walk, Shaggy’s ghostly scavenger hunt, photo opportunities with the Mystery Machine, games, and a trunk-or-treat hosted by Fort Knox BOSS, whose members will be there handing out candy and popcorn for the bravest of souls. Costumes are encouraged.

Lindsey Golf Course is the frightful sight of the Superintendent’s Revenge Trick or Treat 2-person scramble. Happening Oct. 21 with a 10 a.m. shotgun start, members with a cart package will pay $35, members without the cart package pay $50, and non-members pay $65. The price includes the greens fee, cart, range access, prizes and food. Each hole will have either a trick or treat.

This scramble is not for the faint of cart. Call 502-624-2717 to register.

Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation is challenging all rock climbers with its Spooky Rock Climb Party at Smith Fitness Center Oct. 25, 6-8 p.m. Cost is $15 per person, which includes prize giveaways and snacks. There will be rewards for best costume and challenges throughout the event. Smith is located at 5927 Cavalry Drive.

Get out your best costumes and get down to Caruso Sports and Fitness Complex 6-9 p.m. Oct. 27 for the biggest Fort Knox Halloween event of the year – Balloween!  The event is free and open to active duty, Reserves, civilian personnel, retirees and their families looking to score some treats while participating in mummy sack races and a spooky obstacle course, or little ghouls and ghosts looking to tackle the inflatables.

There will be trunk or treating 6-7 p.m. and costume contests for kids of all ages at 7 p.m. Call 502-624-4747 for more information.

Calling all bosses and employees who like each other! Fort Knox is hosting a special Boos and Brews Right Arm Night at Fiddler’s Green starting at 4 p.m. The event includes a costume contest, drink specials and free food.

And let’s not forget the biggest fright-delight night of the year: Halloween. Candy galore is there for the taking around Fort Knox Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. But before you run out the door, make sure you are prepared with a few safety tips under your costumed belts.

Fort Knox Safety officers urge trick-or-treaters to stay in groups or with family members, wear some kind of reflective gear on your costume or bags, carry a cell phone for quick communication and utilize the crosswalks and sidewalks where possible when haunting the streets.

They also said to always look both ways before crossing roads; don’t assume a motorist sees you.
