FORT CARSON, Colo. — The Directorate of Public Works (DPW) and Directorate of Emergency Services Conservation Law Enforcement Officers (CLEOs) are hosting the Mike Simon Fishing Derby Sept. 30 from 6 a.m. to noon at Townsend Reservoir off route 4 on Fort Carson.

The event is named after Mike Simon for his long law enforcement service to Fort Carson and his upcoming 2024 retirement. Community members have an opportunity to come together for free fishing at Townsend Reservoir to honor and appreciate Fort Carson’s Soldiers, veterans and Families. Civilians and staff are also welcome to participate.

No fishing permit is required Sept. 30 from 6 a.m. to noon, but Colorado state bag limits still apply. Participants can bring a lunch or purchase from a food truck on site during the event.

The Fort Carson CLEOs will host a wildlife education presentation and the DPW Environmental Division Conservation Branch will offer up to three free fishing permits as prizes to attendees. The three free fishing permit recipients will be randomly selected the following week and notified by the DPW.

To enter the drawing, send a picture of yourself from the event and include full name to 719-725-4682 between Sept. 30 and midnight Oct. 1. Texts received after midnight Oct. 1 will not be considered.

Prizes are transferrable in certain situations, such as people moving to another duty station before the 2023-2024 fishing season or if a child 11 or younger enters the contest. Children 11 and under are not required to have a fishing permit. Call 719-725-4682 with questions or coordination needs.

Group photos from the event are welcome. Text any pictures (including names of people in the photo) to the DPW at 719-725-4682 to be considered for an after-event Fort Carson Facebook social media post.
