FORT GREGG-ADAMS, Va. — The installation's 13th annual Run for the Fallen is to take place Sept. 9 at Williams Stadium.

WHAT: Run for the Fallen

WHEN: 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 9 (Rain date: Sept. 16)

WHERE: Williams Stadium, Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia

“Every year, I am touched by the support for this event, as our community honors and remembers the sacrifice of our fallen service members and our Gold Star Families,” said Angela Bellamy, Fort Gregg-Adams Survivor Outreach Services coordinator.

Originally started with the intent to honor the fallen and their survivors from the Central Virginia area, this year the event recognizes about 200 additional fallen military service members from across the Commonwealth of Virginia for a total of roughly 1,100 representing every service branch and conflict. In coming years, the plan is to honor the fallen from every state in the nation.

This also represents the first Run for the Fallen since the installation was redesignated as Fort Gregg-Adams and will include the newly commemorated (as of Sept. 8) Gold Star Bridge spanning SR 36 as part of the run route.

The run starts at 8:30 a.m. and participation is free and open to the public. No registration is required for the run; however, non-DoD ID cardholders coming to the installation for the first time should pre-register for post access.

Runner bib pick up begins at 7 a.m. Participants may elect to walk or run a 1-mile or 5K route. Runners can attend in person or experience it virtually.

Run for the Fallen is part of a national, non-profit initiative that began in 2008.
