FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — Summer’s right around the corner and many people here are already planning for a permanent change of station or a much-needed vacation.

If overseas travel is being planned, there are a few additional requirements service members and Defense Department civilians and contractors need to keep in mind.

The Fort Leonard Wood Antiterrorism Office — or a unit-level antiterrorism officer — will guide potential overseas travelers to Fort Leonard Wood Form 3003, Foreign Travel Application, and the DOD’s Foreign Clearance Guide. Both were created to ensure all personnel receive the proper briefings and training prior to departure.

Filling out the FLW Form 3003 is the first step to any travel outside the U.S for all DOD personnel assigned here. The document must be completed and signed by the traveler, then sent to their supervisor, ATO and security manager for approval and signatures. Use of FLW Form 3003 is mandatory to document, track and maintain for all foreign travel — it must be maintained for two years.

The FCG is the regulatory guidance all DOD personnel, to include contractors, must follow. Each country has a different set of requirements, and approval can take anywhere from weeks to months, depending on the location — approval is also not guaranteed and can be rescinded at any time.

Call the AT Office at 573.563.5507 or 2068, or speak with a unit-level AT representative, for more information on overseas travel requirements.
