Team CECOM,

Welcome to 2023! I hope that all of you enjoyed time with family and those important to you while welcoming the new year! The holiday season often provides a personal and professional moment of reflection: to appreciate our successes, consider our challenges, and give thought to the year ahead. Looking back, I couldn’t be prouder of what the entire team accomplished last year. Looking forward, I am filled with optimism. I know that you will adapt to and overcome every challenge to provide world-class support that our warfighters across the globe deserve.

A New Year also provides an opportunity to reaffirm one’s commitment. Often, it’s some type of personal commitment, maybe a gym membership, or a plan to diet, read more, save more money, etc. I will raise that bar for myself a bit and commit to something impactful to others. This year I am reaffirming my commitment to fostering the best workplace I can. Accomplishing our mission only happens when we work together, side by side, shoulder to shoulder, with dignity and respect.

This month we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King. He advocated for nonviolent resistance to overcome injustice and created change with organized sit-ins, marches, and demonstrations that highlighted issues of inequality. Dr. Kings famous “I Have a Dream” speech cemented his status as a social change leader and helped inspire the nation to act on civil rights. In 1964, at 35 years old, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Dr. King’s less than thirteen years of nonviolent leadership ended abruptly and tragically on April 4th, 1968. During his lifetime, Dr. King delivered over 2500 speeches with powerful messages, often echoing the importance of togetherness, readiness, determination, and opportunity.

This year I will take a bit of inspiration from Dr. King and reaffirm my commitment.

Thanks for all you do. I am proud to serve with you and to be your Command Sergeant Major.

“People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don't know each other; they don't know each other because they have not communicated with each other.”
