FORT KNOX, Ky. – The Fort Knox community is invited to attend the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Post Gazebo Dec. 1.
The free event, which serves to officially kick off the holiday season on the installation, will begin at 5:30 p.m. and feature a meet-and-greet with Santa and refreshments organized by the Fort Knox Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.
Guests at the event will also enjoy live music provided by a 100th Army Band quartet as well as choir members of Fort Knox Community Schools. Children will also have the opportunity to write and mail letters to Santa.
Winners of the annual community holiday card competition, which features 4-foot by 8-foot cards decorated by post organizations, military units, and local businesses and municipalities will be announced during the ceremony.
Following the ceremony, about 300 live Christmas trees will be available to all active duty, National Guard and Army Reserve service members, with a limit of one tree per family, until all are claimed.
This event is free and open to the public.
