FORT KNOX, Ky. – Patrons of the Fort Knox Main Exchange can now bring older electronic devices into the store for credit toward new replacements.
The In-Store Electronic Trade-In Program has been launching at many installation Army and Air Force Exchange Service stores, according to Fort Knox store manager Jada Gadsden, who said the program allows customers to take old phones, tablets, computers, game consoles and other items to the electronics counter where an employee can help with the trade-in.
“We have a website where we load all of the information into the system with a vendor we’ve partnered with,” said Gadsden. “After the description is put in, it comes back with a price.”
Gadsden encouraged customers to take advantage of the program but also to understand that the trade-in value is not determined by store employees.
“The quote does not come from AAFES, it comes from the vendor,” said Gadsden. “We’ll then give you a gift card that can be applied toward the difference of what you owe on your new item.”
While Gadsden said certain items may not qualify for trade-in, such as when damaged or too outdated, employees will be able to see in the system if they’re accepted. Once approved and a trade-in price is offered, she said the next step is choosing its replacement.
“No cash will exchange hands whatsoever,” said Gadsden. “It can only be credited toward the cost of the new item.”
One of the most important things customers need to do prior to coming into the store, according to Gadsden, is to ensure the item they’re trading in doesn’t have any personal information on it. Any private photos, information and passwords need to be removed, and one particular feature on some devices needs to be switched off:
“The ‘Find’ application,” said Gadsden. “Some items and phones have a ‘Find My Device’ feature and if that’s not off, we can’t accept it.”
Gadsden said the program can be utilized by anyone with a Department of Defense I.D. and AAFES shopping privileges and is set up to be as convenient as possible.
“It’s all walk-in; no appointments are necessary,” said Gadsden. “Just come in and talk to one of our associates in our electronics department.”
Now, with employees trained and ready to help, Gadsden said it’s yet another way her staff can better provide for the Fort Knox community.
“We hope people will take advantage of this program,” said Gadsden. “We’re here to support our customers. We wouldn’t be here without them.”
